Neominimalistic and user-driven design are the main ingredients of Joel Karlsson’s design philosophy.
The functional and aesthetical experiences of a product can not be separated. The have to unite in a product. An idea both Mitab and I share.
Growing up in a permissive and creative environment Joel was early following the path towards design.
With a great deal of curiosity and a strong internal motivation Joel has established himself among the top designers of Scandinavia. Joel works in different fields of design, not only furniture.
Joel’s design ambition are based on the user and market needs. In close collaboration with the producer he then develop the product based on technical, economical and marketing conditions. Joel wants to create quality items that will last. Products that you live with, not consume.
Joel met with Mitab for the first time in 1997. Conversations started and the cooperation evolved into a first product in 2005. – Mitab is uniqe since they have such a large part of the production in house. That enables the process of trial and error to be used and shorten the important part of the design process where the prototypes are made.
Joel´s educational background is very solid. Today Joel is running the design department at Krook & Tjäder architects in Gothenburg.
